A classic Santa Fe style home needed a brighter and lighter kitchen that still integrated with the rest of the antique-filled home. Opened up to the family room, the kitchen is now part of the action. Consolidating the tall appliances on one wall opened up space to move the cooktop to the other side of the room so there was counter space for the chef. I advised avoiding typical Santa Fe design elements, while keeping a mix of texture and natural materials. We created special details to make the design feel one of kind. Using family heirloom silverware, we crafted drawer pulls for a few cabinets. Created a place for special carved shortbread molds and chose sparkling glass light fixtures to add a bit of modern color. Glossy teal tiles add a handcrafted backdrop for the client’s treasured pieces.
